Yevonne Morris

d. September 12, 2023

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing of Correctional Officer III Yevonne Morris. Yevonne, 50, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023. She is survived by her parents, Judy and Neal Grantham; her children, Austin and Braedon Morris; and her brother, Jack Damron (Kristy).

Yevonne began her journey with the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) on September 07, 2009 as a Correctional Officer I at the Correctional Officer Training Academy (COTA), class #864. Upon graduating from COTA on October 23, 2009, Yevonne was transferred to ASPC-Douglas, Mohave Unit, as a Correctional Officer II. On July 20, 2013, Yevonne transferred to Douglas Complex Security, and within a couple of years, she was selected as a Special Security Unit (SSU) Officer. Shortly thereafter, on October 8, 2016, Yevonnne promoted to Correctional Officer III and was assigned to the Gila Unit. She later transferred to Papago Unit and then back to Mohave Unit where she remained until her untimely passing.

Yevonne loved her job and was dedicated to the rehabilitation and reentry programming work she was doing, as evidenced by her devotion to her job for nearly 15 years. She is fondly remembered by her team for her great sense of humor and infectious laugh. She was an avid crafter and a diehard Denver Broncos fan, but above all else, Yevonne was a loving and devoted mother. She had a very close relationship with her sons, Austin and Braedon (Anthony), both of whom adored her.

Yevonne’s commitment to public service will undoubtedly leave a lasting imprint on our agency, for which we are forever grateful. Her family, friends, and teammates within the ADCRR mourn her loss together, and will miss her presence dearly. Please join me in extending your heartfelt condolences to the Douglas Complex team.

Thank you for your service to ADCRR and for supporting your fellow teammates in the work we do.
