Socorro "Soco" Elzy

Socorro "Soco" Elzy passed away August 11, 2022, at Tucson Medical Center with family by her side. She was born in Moctezuma, Sonora, on December 6, 1937. She grew up in Douglas where she attended Loretto Catholic and Douglas High Schools.

Soco was married to Miguel "Mike" Elzy, her beloved lifetime companion of 66 years.

As a child she was surrounded by family, her aunts became lifetime friends. As a youth she loved and participated in all sports. She stayed active and enjoyed walking, bicycle riding and dancing.

Soco worked at Kress, a variety store, Head Start, and Phelps Dodge Laboratory. She was a member of YWCA Club Selene, St. Luke's and Mother of Sorrows Parishes, and an oblet at Holy Trinity Monastery in St. David. She was a very active volunteer for her church, Catholic Social Services, and the Monastery.

Soco was a loving and caring wife and mother. She participated in her sons' sports and scout activities. She was a homemaker, great cook, and enjoyed being with family and friends, to whom she was very supportive. She and Mike enjoyed traveling in the states, Europe, and Mexico. In later years she loved visits, phone visits, and kept family connected.

She was proceeded in death by her son Mike and her mother Josefa Moreno. She is survived by her husband Mike, sons Daniel, Mario, and Robert; eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren; two sisters Lupe Guerrero (Atenedoro) Margaret Nogales; nephew, nieces, and many godchildren.

She will be greatly missed but always present in our hearts.
