Susan "Susie" Marie Katz
Susan “Susie” Marie Katz, age 61 of Douglas, Arizona died on a bicycle ride on March 29, 2020.
She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on April 27, 1958, the cherished daughter of Christa and the late Lawrence Katz. She was the loving sister of Claudia Woodward, Martin (Helen) Katz, Gregory (Connie) Katz, Robert (Natalie) Katz, and Monica (Dan) Allen. Niece of Erika Voss, Aunt of Keith, Michael, and Laura Woodward, Rebecca and Joseph Katz, and Alex and Amelia Katz.
She graduated from Wauwatosa East High school and received a degree in criminal justice from the University of Wisconsin Platteville.
She worked for the prison systems in Waupun Wisconsin, Yuma Arizona, Tucson Arizona, and recently retired from the Federal Prison. Since retiring, Sue volunteered at a nursing home and a local museum where she did landscape work. Sue loved to garden and was continually trying to find seeds and plants that would grow in the Arizona soil! Susie was an avid bike rider, recognized around the county by many on her daily treks. She loved her family and had a special soft spot for her young nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews.
She was known for remembering birthdays and Christmas, sending thoughtful and quirky gifts. She had an off-beat sense of humor used often on her siblings. She often remembered events from her childhood that were going to end up in a “fictional” book she intended to write.
She was interested in politics and history, watching many documentaries and reading many non-fiction books. Susie’s foremost love and passion was for her many dogs, typically numbering 7 or 8. She loved nothing more than taking long walks with them multiple times per day. She made sure she cooked for them each day, and it was guaranteed they ate better than she did!
Please consider making a donation in Susie’s name to a local animal shelter.
A memorial service will be held in the Bisbee area after the COVID-19 crisis is past.
