Jose H. Cornejo, Jr. Having fought a tremendously brave and courageous battle, Joey passed from Life onto Eternal Life at the age of 52 on August 9, 2017.
He is now celebrating a blessed reunion with his mother and grandmothers. Joey is preceded in death by his mother, Socorro Carpio Cornejo and grandmothers, Maria Carpio and Maria Cornejo. He is survived by his father, Jose H. Cornejo Sr. (Cecilia); his son, Jose JoJo Chacon Cornejo; his step-daughter Anissa Santa Cruz; his sisters, Rebecca and Gloria; his brothers, Eddie, Rudy, Ronnie and stepbrother Manny Vega; along with many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.
Joey was born in Douglas, AZ on April 4, 1965. He graduated Pueblo High School in Tucson and then built his career as carpenter in the construction field for many years culminating at Tucson Unified School District. Joey was a sports enthusiast that loved his Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees. He enjoyed listening to George Strait and spending time with his beloved family. Joey's passion in life was spending precious time on the baseball diamond with his son Joey. They spent numerous hours together in the batting cages, practice field and participating in club tournaments across the state. They shared a very special bond through the sport of baseball.
Joey will be tremendously missed by his family and friends. His mild manners, his uplifting smile, his steadfastness, his kindness and loving presence will remain with us forever. We celebrate Joey's life and will never forget all the loving ways he touched OUR lives.
Services will be held Friday, August 18, 2017 at Santa Cruz Catholic Church 1220 S. 6th Avenue Tucson, AZ 85713 Rosary at 10:30 a.m. followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m.
Reception following at El Rio Center 1390 W. Speedway Tucson, AZ 85745 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Final resting for Joey will be in Douglas, AZ at Douglas Cemetery on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. Joey will be buried with his mom.
